Monthly Charity Donations - February's Funds will go to Digital Grandparents, Inc
Every month AoIP donates 10% of our income from our website sales to a charity/fundraiser that is in immediate need, or is a choice from our AoIP community.
February's donation will go to Digital Grandparents Inc. Our student, Pam Katz, recommended them to us. Older adults are faced with isolation as they retire, lose spouses and friends, become physically impaired and sometimes relocate. The loss of social connectedness has an impact on their mental and physical health and well-being. For people of all ages with access, the Internet has improved the ability to stay connected with friends, family and community, access information and entertainment, and ease the functions of everyday life.
Pam states: Digital Grandparents, Inc. was established in 2008 by my son, Bobby Steinbach, then a Northeastern University computer science student, to foster computer literacy among older adults by enlisting young people as volunteer tutors. It focused its work in Boston, MA and, starting in 2015, expanded to the Capital and Metro regions of New York. The program’s core components consist of providing volunteer tutors, who are largely young adults, to older adults interested in learning about computers and the Internet. Ideally, tutoring relationships are stable and on-going for months to years. An adjunct benefit of this program has been the facilitation of intergenerational communication and understanding.
Interested in volunteering? Digital Grandparents, Inc. welcomes people to contribute their time and talents by volunteering to tutor. The link to sign up is: https://dg-inc.org/participate/volunteer/
